Preventive health, close to home

A community walking path in Markham

The best health outcome is the crisis that never happens. A screening booked on time. A senior who stays mobile and independent. A child whose asthma is managed before it becomes an emergency. This is the quiet, unglamorous work of preventive health, and it is where I have spent my career.

Why prevention is my starting point

For ten years my team and I have worked with more than 6,000 Markham residents on their physical health. That work taught me something simple: small, steady support keeps people well and keeps pressure off an overstretched system. Prevention is not only kinder to families, it is smarter for the whole community.

Prevention is a local matter too

We often think of health as something that happens in a doctor’s office. Much of it happens on our streets and in our public spaces: safe places to walk, parks and recreation that get people moving, clean and well-lit neighbourhoods that make an evening walk feel possible. These are things a city councillor genuinely influences.

What I will do

I will not overstate what city hall controls. Many benefits are provincial or federal. What I can promise is a councillor who treats prevention as a priority and who knows this field from the ground up.

Let’s build it together

Preventive health works best when a whole community leans into it. Read the Platform page to see how this connects to the rest of my plan, and get involved to help make it real.
