About Dave Yu
Dave Yu is a candidate for Markham City Council, Ward 2, in the 2026 municipal election. He has spent his career in community and personal health, and he is running to bring that experience to the council table.
From Guangzhou to Markham
Dave was born in Guangzhou, China, and came to Canada to study in 2009 at the age of 16. He completed a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science at Simon Fraser University, then continued his study and career in community and personal health development.
A career in community health
Through his work in health and fitness, Dave has partnered with government, non-profit, and private community health providers, including Vancouver Coastal Health, the Three Bridges Health and Rehabilitation Clinic, the Dr. Jerry Leung Medical Centre, and the Young and Weldrick Dental Centre.
Alongside that work, Dave is a dedicated fitness professional and entrepreneur. He and his team study the needs of each client closely, and over the past ten years they have delivered personalised fitness and health services to more than 6,000 residents in Markham. Local health-community organisations he works within include the Dr. Jerry Leung Medical Club and Up&Fit Fitness.
Technology for a stronger community
Dave believes in the practical promise of agentic and physical AI. Through his involvement with MARI, a local AI and robotics company in Richmond Hill, he has built a working understanding of how these tools can support economic and social development, and how they can help raise living standards and growth in Markham.
Ready to serve in 2026
After more than five years studying community improvement and ten years working with people from every walk of life, Dave Yu is ready in 2026 to work closely and diligently with the people of Markham. He wants to combine his expertise and experience to contribute to the continued growth of the city and the health of Ward 2.
