The day I registered as candidate for Ward 2 councillor

I still remember the day I registered as a candidate for Ward 2 councillor.

I have spent the last ten years doing work that is simple and physical: helping people get stronger. In that time, I have helped more than 6,000 Markham residents get stronger and healthier. It has been the most rewarding thing I have ever done. But over those ten years, I also came to see its limits. I can help the person in front of me. I cannot change the conditions that make staying healthy hard for everyone else: a facility too far from home, information that arrives in a language a family cannot read, a neighbourhood missing something it should have had all along.

So I am taking a first step toward something bigger. I am running for City Councillor in Ward 2.

This is my first time seeking office, and there is a great deal about how a city works that I am still learning.

What I bring is a willingness to learn, a willingness to listen, and ten years of hands-on experience watching, up close, what actually stops people from living well. I intend to put it to work building a stronger, healthier Ward 2.

The HEALTH platform: six commitments for our ward

  • H. Housing 住房: Stable, dignified homes are the foundation of a healthy community.
  • E. Education 教育: Lifelong learning and clear health information, so families can find and use services across languages and generations.
  • A. Advocacy 為您發聲: Your Ward, Your Voice. I advocate directly for you, ensuring your voice and your needs drive decisions.
  • L. Living Standards 生活質量: Parks, recreation, safety, and the small municipal fixes that make a neighbourhood feel cared for.
  • T. Technology 科技: Practical tools that connect residents to information and to each other, without leaving anyone behind.
  • H. Hospitality 好客共融: A Ward 2 that welcomes newcomers and long-time residents alike, and builds belonging in public life.

These six are commitments I intend to be measured against, which is why this site has a Track Progress page: you can see what has moved and what has not.

Tell me what you think

This platform was built from what I have seen and heard over ten years here. But I have not spoken to everyone yet, and I would rather hear from you now than find out later that I missed something.

Which of these six matters most on your street? Is there something I have left out entirely?

Leave a comment, send me a message, or stop me at your door: I am knocking across Ward 2 between now and October 26. I look forward to hearing what you have to say, and to speaking up for you.
